<p>Barli Sasmitawinata was born at 1921.<br />He studied at the Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam. He was a member of the "Lima group" in Bandung, together with Affandi, Hendra Gunawan, Wahdi Sumanta, and Sudarso.</p> <p>He taught at the Rangga Gempol Studio in Bandung, Indonesia and some of his ex-students such are Popo Iskandar, Anton Huang, Ruddy Pranajaya and Chusin Setiadikara who have become&nbsp;Indonesian well-known artist.s He uses charcoal and oil as his medium. He is known as senior figurative artist.</p>
